Adam Cronin has returned for a 5th year at CHSS. He comes from a family of two children and has always lived in Blyth and attended Blyth Public School. Adam is a well rounded student who excels in academics and participates in a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Adam has been on the honour roll throughout high school with his favourite subjects being math and physical education. Adam participated on the school hockey, volleyball, tennis and Nordic Ski teams. He is a reliable and responsible team member who often takes on a leadership role.
Adam has always been active and an avid sports participant. He has a passion for physical education, but also finds the area of mathematics very enjoyable. Adam’s main reason for enjoying math is that it comes easy to him. He also likes the fact that the answer is either right or wrong and that there is no opinion involved.
Adam discussed his career interests with his parents and decided to investigate three career choices: physical education, architecture or accounting. After carefully researching his options and speaking to a family friend who was an accountant, Adam felt that more of his strengths and interests were in accounting.
Adam’s first choice would be to attend Wilfrid Laurier University. Coming from a small rural town, he felt he would like to be a part of Laurier’s small classes and participate in the Accounting Co-op program. Adam would like to graduate from University and return to Huron County to work in a rural area.

At DCVI, I have made lifelong best friends, grew as a person, learned life lessons and expanded my education. To be honest, I love school. The work challenges me and the environment ( teachers and friends) make the experience that much better. Until grade 9, I always thought I wanted to be a teacher but then I was introduced to grade 9 science. I realized that I loved the sciences and then as I got older I realized I still wanted to help people. When I got into grade 11 chemistry and grade 11 biology, something just clicked. The scientific world fascinated me. In grade 12, exercise science showed me that I also wanted to work with human anatomy. Thus my goal is to achieve a BScN – Bachelor of Science in nursing with specializations in critical care and oncology.
Being an active person is something else I want to continue. I love to play ringette! Baseball is fun as well. I have also enjoyed being part of the Friendship Games, the school carnival, PWWP and school dances.
My parents have always supported me in my choices and have taught me to strive for more. I would say that 2 teachers also impacted my life. They are my role models and I look up to them. Mrs. Waldick was so great with helping plan your future and Mrs. Wrigley taught you life lessons. The support of these people have helped me realize that dreams can come true!

Sheena has always lived in Wingham, attending Wingham Public school before coming to Madill, and this is where she learned that athletics would be an important part of her future. In and out of school, she was involved in many teams, including track & field, volleyball, basketball, softball and hockey. With her family’s support in providing opportunities to indulge her passion for sports, it is not surprising that her future plans include studying kinesiology at university, and perhaps going into athletic therapy.
Madill is a welcoming place in Sheena’s opinion, where teachers work hard to get you to do your best, like Mrs. Verhaeghe who was both encouraging and fun during phys-ed. class. In fact, Madill coaches and teammates are the best, according to Sheena. One of her most enduring memories is when her basketball team beat Stratford Central’s team at Huron-Perth. Sports have taught her time management, leadership and organization, as well as providing fun times and friendship
Sheena hopes to live a life where she remains happy and busy. She believes that a good life is one where you manage your time wisely and always remember to see the glass as half full. Her advice to future graduates of Madill is to get involved – there is something for everyone here, and it really makes a difference to the overall high school experience. There is no doubt that Sheena has made her own good experience through her positive attitude and quest to succeed.
Katie’s future is sure to be bright as she continues to live by the philosophy that she should try everything, treat others well and live life fully.

Olivia Kramer is currently in her fourth year at Stratford Central Secondary School. Olivia has maintained an high academic average in every year at Central and has done so while keeping an extremely busy extra-curricular schedule. She has plans to pursue a Business degree and has aspirations to become a CEO of a big business one day.
As she prepares to head to university, Olivia reflects on the past. Olivia says that “being at Central has given me all of the tools necessary to achieve my chosen career dreams. Not only have my teachers been helpful and supportive during class, they’ve also encouraged me to think independently, take on leadership roles around the school and have given me freedom to explore areas of interest.”
Most students can usually take a look back and remember a particular teacher who had a significant impact on his/her life. When asked about the staff at Central, Olivia said that “it’s impossible for me to highlight only one teacher because each of my teachers have inspired me in a different way. Mr. Gilbert always encouraged me to be organized, Mr. Nesbitt taught me that math is so much more than just seat work and Mrs. McConkey has always been supportive, whether in the classroom or on the volleyball court.”
Olivia has been a member of the volleyball, tennis, and cross-country teams at Central. She was also involved with Theatre Central, Student Council, Ramcast, Band (Symphonic and Jazz) and Choir (Vocal Chords and Central Singers). Attending Central has left Olivia with a long list of fond memories. In particular, Olivia says that she will remember her involvement in a musical called ‘Big Box Story’. This gave her the opportunity to meet many students, form great friendships and perform on the Stratford Festival’s Avon Stage.

In 2011, Mathias held the Student Senator position on Student Council and was elected Student Trustee for the Avon Maitland District School Board. He was recognized in 2011 with the first Huron County “Youth in Action Award” for Excellence in Arts and Culture in the Community. In 2010, Memmel received top prize in the grade 8 vocal divisions of the Kiwanis Ontario Provincial Championships. As well as a singer, he is a grade 9 piano student, French horn player and Percussionist. Memmel has performed with the Ontario Youth and the National Youth Choir. Mathias has enjoyed Taekwondo and Tennis after school.
As far as post secondary education is concerned, Mathias credits his teachers immensely. “Mr. Macleod, an exemplary teacher at SHDHS, introduced me to “Forum for Young Canadians.” Because of his recommendation, I attended the 10-day program in Ottawa. I realized how great my interest was in Canada’s legal system and foreign politics in part through this program and Mr. MacLeod’s geography and history classes. I applaud Mr. Macleod’s dedication to students. The door to room 209 is always open!”
Though heavily involved in arts-focused extra-curriculars, Mathias hopes to join Canada’s Civil Service or perhaps enter federal politics. He says that, “Music will always remain a passion!” He recommends students choose career path that doesn’t diminish the joy of their hobby.

This enthusiastic young woman is looking forward to university next fall. Renée hopes to combine her love of French and her keen interest in teaching young children at Wilfrid Laurier’s, Brantford Campus in Concurrent Education – French. She credits several of her teachers, especially her French teacher, for encouraging her to enter a career in education. Her love of French started in her birth place of Terrace Bay. She attended École Franco Terrace until moving to Stratford in 2007. French is the first language of many of her family members there.
Renée embodies the true Huskie spirit. She has been involved in volleyball, students’ council, OSAID, the yearbook club and the prom committee. In her free time, she enjoys reading, drawing, crafts and yoga. Renée knows she made the right decision when choosing Stratford Northwestern as her high school. She will always remember the great teachers she has had and the wonderful relationships she has made with her peers. She strongly believes that high school has helped her to become who she is today. As she looks to the future, she knows that she “feels prepared for university, emotionally and academically.”
Renée credits the support of her family for her high school success. The encouragement of her parents helped her to work hard to reach her academic goals. Family is very important to Renée. She is pleased that they supported her pathway goals. She and her family believe there are many benefits in being bilingual.
